Open-platform application offers class-leading flexibility, improved field mobility for mobile workers, with no licensing fees or activation requirements.
SYDNEY, Australia. September 25, 2012 – Intermec, Inc. (NYSE: IN) today announced a new HTML5-capable browser that allows for the development of web applications that can be utilised by iOS, Android and select Intermec rugged mobile computers, bettering workflow efficiency and offering increased flexibility to mobile workforces.
Unique to the industry, Intermec's HTML5 offering includes a true web browser application for multiple models of Intermec's handheld computers for Windows® Mobile and Windows Embedded operating systems. Additionally, Intermec's HTML5-capable browser supports applications designed to run either on-line (connected to a web server), off-line (no connection to a web server) or a combination of the two.
"Intermec's new HTML5-capable browser offers enterprises the flexibility to equip their mobile workers with a modern user interface and latest business logic, along with the right device for their specific working conditions and usage demands," said Earl Thompson, Intermec Senior Vice President, Mobile Solutions Business Unit.
Intermec's HTML5 browser is not only built on the state-of-the-art Webkit™ engine, like iOS and Android™, but it is offered conveniently preloaded and free of licensing fees or license activation requirements on a range of Intermec devices. HTML5 applications that run on consumer-grade smartphones and tablets can also be run on these select Intermec rugged mobile computers without changes or rewrites.
For improved workflow efficiency, data can be stored locally on the device until synchronization with the back-end server is available, eliminating time lost due to poor cellular coverage.
"Intermec is demonstrating a clear vision of how HTML5 will impact their market and is on the right path to leverage the disruption caused by the introduction of consumer grade products into field mobility markets. Their HTML5 Browser offering provides software vendors and customers with a clear and easy path to deploy rugged mobile computers in environments that feature smartphone and tablet devices" said Eric Klein, a senior analyst covering mobile software at VDC Research.
"As a developer of cutting edge mobile and web applications platforms, working with a partner that genuinely supports open-platform HTML5 applications vastly increases our ability to streamline and tailor-make products for our clients" said Matt Costin, Product Manager at Bright Software.
